Southill Fireworks

For the first time in 12 years of running this event, the weather last year, 2008, unfortunately, was against us. Despite the high winds and heavy rain over 1000 of you still ventured out to watch and support the event and I am very thankful for your support.

The 2008 charity, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, collected £287.17 and this was topped up by Southill Firework sponsorship money to £387.17.

Other local charities and organisations listed below, benefited again from last year's event.

  • Southill School PTA raised: - ££113.00
  • Southill Youth Club: - £70.00
  • Kidz R Us (Southill Pre-Sch): - £60.00

But WOW! What a successful result in sponsorship for this years Southill Firework Event © 2009. Please see out list of sponsors, a BIG thank you to them for help making this event happen.

It is hard to believe this event has been now running for so long and over these years we have raised £1000's for a number of charities and non-profit making organisations.

This year I have invited Weldmar Hospicecare Trust as the 2009 main charity, though the usual stalls provided by Southill School PTA, Kidz R Us, Southill Youth Club and Weymouth North Scout Group will be in attendance selling bites to eat and provide games with prizes, please support them all as much as you can.

In addition this year illuminous necklaces will be sold and monies made from these will go toward helping support Southill Fireworks Event in 2010. So if you like Southill Fireworks Event please help it continue and buy an illuminous necklace or two.

Southill Fireworks Event © is a non-profit making event, entirely funded through sponsorship from companies. The free event attracts around 3000 people and a range of local charities and non-profit organisations are invited to the event in order to raise money for their own cause. Without sponsorship there would be no fireworks. Without fireworks there would be no event and local charities and non-profit organisation would not benefit.

The entire team, from stewarding to litter collection, barrier cordoning to PA, do so as volunteers. This also includes the excellent, fully qualified and highly skilled pyrotechnic crew who spend hours designing, constructing, installing and then firing the 10 to 15 minute display.

If you feel you may have something to offer the event, whether it be stewarding or help packing up, only a few hours of your time is needed and you will be rewarded with a nice drink or two down the John Gregory at the end of the night.
